James Nowak
James Nowak is a writer, medievalist, and book artist from Wellington County. He is captivated by the sensory organ that is the human voice, and all the other speaking and listening creatures claiming their place in the great, anarchic cacophony of speech. His debut poetry chapbook Draw Me the Sky was published in August by Vocamus Press, and his long essay ‘Between Home and Hell’ appeared in Dark Mountain 12. James previously operated a small letterpress studio just outside of Eden Mills. He continues to dabble in the book arts, presently collaborating with the hide tanner Daniel Stermac-Stein to produce a series of sheep-parchment envelopes for Someone Editions’ serial broadside project, The French Letter Society. James studies medieval literature and philosophy at the University of Toronto. A selection of his poems won the 2022 Read at The Fringe! Poetry Contest at the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival. James is honoured to be back again this year. Follow James on Instagram: @wordsandtheirmanyrobes
