Workshop: Nothing More Than Feelings
With Ian Williams, Scotiabank Giller Prize-winning author of Reproduction
People instantly associate poetry with feelings, and poets oblige by continuing to dump our feelings there. This workshop attunes us afresh to how we represent our feelings. We move through the chain of experiencing feelings to expressing them to considering their effect on readers. Through prompts and examples, we will replace feelings that are cliched, lifeless, and predictable with feelings that have texture, complexity, impact, and resonance. How can we transmit our highly personalized feelings to readers in a way they can appreciate? What’s the difference between a thought and a feeling?
In this workshop you can expect to generate new material and to leave with strategies that can be immediately implemented in your present project. No poetry experience is expected.
