A book review by Charlie (5), Liliane (6), and Zoe (5)

Kids should read this book because it’s very smart and it’s very fun and funny.

Hi Charlie, Liliane, and Zoe! Can you tell us what this book is about?

Charlie: This book is about birds that want to have food.

Liliane: This book is about a girl feeding a flock of birds while waiting for a bus with her mom.

Zoe:  It’s about birds that eat food. I think you should never give birds food because if you do, the birds will eat it and fight for the food and not let you have food.

What do you like about this book?

Charlie: I liked the polka dot bird!

Liliane: It is a silly book with lots of clues in the illustrations.

Zoe: I like that there are birds. And that she brought a little bird home.

What is your favourite part of the story?

Liliane: My favourite part of the story is the end when a little bird pops out of the girls backpack.

Zoe: My favourite part is when the birds are following her on the bus. When she was on the bus, she didn’t feed the birds.

What do you like about the illustrations?

Liliane: I like the colours and the way the illustrator drew and painted. I could recognize the paint, collage and colouring pencils. I liked how it got darker as they waited.

Zoe: I like that there are so many colours and that each page has birds.

Why should kids read this book?

Liliane: Kids should read this book because it’s funny and it teaches them that feeding animals will attract them to you, which may be a good or bad thing!

Zoe: Because it’s very smart and it’s very fun and funny. It’s smart because the little girl decided never to give birds food ever again after.

If you could ask the author or illustrator a question, what would it be?

Liliane: I would ask how they chose the types of birds in the flock and where do those birds come from? How did the mom not notice the birds?

Zoe: How did you think of this story? I want to learn how too!
