Poetry Contest for Children

DEADLINE June 15, 2020

Announcing our 2020 Poetry Contest for Children!

The theme of this year's contest is “MY WORLD”. Tell us about your world! Big or small, near or far.

Our theme is inspired by The League of Canadian Poets theme for National Poetry Month, April 2020: “A World of Poetry.”

Judging Criteria:
We are looking for creativity and originality in the entries. We believe children are skilled at seeing their world through a unique lens and we look forward to reading work that reflects this.

Categories:
- Primary (Grades 1-3)
- Junior (Grades 4-6)
- Intermediate (Grades 7-8)

Contest Rules:
- One poem only
- One page maximum
- You must live in Ontario

Awards:
Winners in each category will be notified in August and invited to attend an awards presentation at the festival on Sunday September 13, 2020, hosted by one of the festival’s presenting authors. In past years, Dennis Lee, Kevin Sylvester and Tim Wynne-Jones have hosted our awards.

Winners will receive $25 and a family pass to the festival. Runners-up will receive free admission to the festival for themselves and a guest.
